Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, Lactation Counselor
My name is Alyssa and I'm stay at home mom. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio into a big family. I attended Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. In 2007, I moved to Los Angeles, CA to pursue an acting career and after 4 years I met my wonderful husband, Victor. We moved back to Columbus in February 2015.
Victor comes from a family of 4 boys and I am one of 5 kids so I always knew I wanted kids of my own one day, I just didn't know when or how many! Our first child, Penelope, was born at home in May 2014; I knew immediately I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible so I just had to find a way to work from home.
Having worked in restaurants for 15 years I was ready for a change of scenery but I struggled to find something that I could do from home and enjoyed. Then I got to thinking about how much I benefited from having my placenta encapsulated and my sister, Jessica (a midwife), has often spoken about how great it feels to be able to offer this extra layer of support during the postpartum period. Offering placenta encapsulation seemed like a perfect fit.
I also decided to pursue a career in Lactation Therapy to further help women during the 4th trimester. In October 2016, my son, Henry, was born at home and I chose to have my placenta encapsulated again, which has renewed my passion for providing this service to other moms. I'm excited to embark on this wonderful journey, one that allows me to care for my children and give back to a community that gives me so much at the same time.

Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, Midwife, Monitrice
It has taken me many years to figure out what I want to be when I grow up! I received my Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing with a minor in Sociology from Otterbein College (University) in 2004. I then moved to Canterbury, England to study for my Master of Arts in European and Comparative Literary Studies in 2006. However, I have been involved indirectly in childbirth, homeopathy, breastfeeding, and childcare since I was a toddler.
After the birth of my daughter, Eva, in 2007, I started learning about birth in the United States and decided that I wanted to make a difference for women. In December 2009, I attended a DONA Birth Doula training and started offering doula services. In May 2011, I became a Student Midwife through an apprenticeship program with local midwives and in November 2011, I graduated from Sacred Mountain Midwifery School. In 2013, I left my apprenticeship and started Roots Midwifery with my business partner, Alison Diaz, DEM. We offer home birth, monitrice, and doula support.
I am one of the most experienced Placenta Encapsulation Specialists in Ohio, offering encapsulation services since 2011. This service allows women the chance to consume their placentas, aiding in faster postpartum recovery, higher milk supply, keeping hormones balanced, lowering the risk of postpartum depression and a host of other benefits. In November 2016, I gave birth at home to my son, Lennon, and finally had the opportunity to experience consuming my encapsulated placenta, to which I attribute my fast recovery and whopping milk supply! In early 2017, I decided to expand my placenta business to include tinctures, salves, and other natural products to help with the childbearing years and postpartum period. In order to do this, I asked my sister, Alyssa Ryan Calm, another Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, to join my business. We are the only Placenta Encapsulation Specialists that return your placenta products within 24 hours.
Alyssa and I both gave birth to healthy, fat baby boys at the end of 2016 and that is how we created Fat Baby Placenta Products!
